Some more Characters

I posted an image of four characters form "Cest Langleterre" a while ago, so i decided to add the last three on this post. they are Hewitt, Blythe and Becky. the latter two are the more minor characters and only appear on about two pages worth of the script im writing at the moment, however i intend to use them regularly.Hewitt, is in every episode and works the print rollers for the school magazine.

Elephant in the Room

Here is the final Elephant in the room illustration. ive not got much to say because it is Christmas Eve and i want to be doing NOTHING. and not typing nonsense into this blog like im bloody doing now!

Kane Rip Off

I've started rewriting my Cest Langleterre scripts, so far ive managed the first five minutes or so of a pilot in which it sets everything up. the first scene is when Petulia, the antagonist wins a student election to be student president. For once i'm quite happy with my first drafted script as usually im always in turmoil and think that everything i write is utter shit. but im pleased with how this one is turning out. Anyways here is a scene i made of the stage.

Its kind of remanicant of Citizen Kane but that doesnt make me original or cool so dont think i was trying to be. ive also added some visual political "jokes" as it were by putting two famous campaign lines in French on the projectors on the stage Obama's "Yes we can" and Blair's "Things can only get better" HAW HAW HAW. i guess you'd only get it if you were French or could read French. but even if you where or did, its not even that funny, i just needed something to fill the gaps in them (i drew them without thinkning and left myself a hole to fill.)

Some final Illustrations

between doing drawing and colouring for the MS animation and doing some of my own writing and drawing, ive been trying to gte as many illustrations done as i can. here are some of the final one's ive squeezed out since the weekend.

Decided that i REALLY need to get started on final drawings for the Cancer Booklet. so ive been at this one today, im not to happy with the shading as it was done last and i kinda wanted to get it done quickly to start drawing another.

its to illustrate a story in the booklet about the change in family life following the diagnosis of cancer. the father has to help around the house more and therfore, his relationship with thier daughters gets better, they chat on facebook with each other loads, because of this though, the mother who was diagnosed becomes quite resentful of it.

Beagle 2

a quick idea of the Beagle 2 that will lie on the mars Background for the MS project.

Late Night Character Designs

What better for a Friday night than sitting with a cup of tea, a biscuit, a scary but insightful documentry called JESUS CAMP,and drawings some sketchy character designs. here's what i've got done. none of them are new except for one, its a minor character that ive written into my revampted "Cest Langleterre" (ive prob spelt that wrong, french innit)series. Her name is Blythe, a name i discovered when talking about character names to my friend and sole reader of this blog(hello). she's a downtrodden and virtually ignored by her peers and will basicly be a verbal punch bag and abuse magnet so i can write a bit of humour. but god love her she is so jolly none the less.

ive also started designing a sort of title. this rough sketch is an idea to make it out of mechanical or school related parts. ill try different methods, the laso tool on the letters has already made me think of making it out of magazine font letters like a ransom note, since the main characters work for a school magazine this is appropriate. its a shame i havnt bothered to make these a bit more presentable but i guess 70% of all design is the scribbly shit you do before the final anyway. so there you go!!! fucking enjoy it!

More Cancer Booklet Illustrations

Some concept art for a client. These are not the final drawings, just some ideas that i have sent to her to give an idea of what to expect.

This series of the same drawing was sent to show the variety of colour templates for block colouring.

I've worked on this one with a different style. I've tried to keep it close to my own but i developed a sort of new retro look like Dexters Lab or what have you. I don't expect to use this style all the time in my work, i just thought it would be nice to have this look for this particular project.

Im not happy with this particular drawing i need to think of a clearer way to illustrate this point. though i do like the idea of a load of doctors crowding round a manic looking patient.

This one i like, it's borderline disturbing and there's something about drawing a horse being electrocuted that makes me remember the old days when i drew stupid mental things. I'm glad this one was well received by the client because it is as i say a bit over the top. (at least i think some people would think so.)

That's all for now, im hoping to gte more done soon and redraw these ones to make them a better standard and also work on a better colour technique.

Ive been doing a fair bit recently, and im trying to juggle my time into three different things, the MS backgrounds, the Cancer Booklet Illustrations and my own personal development. when im not doing that im sleeping or watching episode after episode of Soupy Norman, a weird Irish comedy show that dubbs over a polish soap programe.

these are two ideas for the cancer booklet, they look like they dont have anything to do with cancer and in a way they donet. but the booklet explains stories about certain people who have or have had it. rather than me attempting to draw people in clinics or getting chemo, ive decided to concentrate on illustrating these parts of the booklet.

Ive been drawing some old characters in a new way, basicly in a way that makes them more cartoony and therefore easier to animate as my more illustrative style is a bit too much. these are ones i drew up last night. obviously they arent bastardisations of my original characters but there are some changes, ive also started re writing the bass for the stories they are in (AGAIN)

Simon's Room

Ive spent all day moving furniture up and downstairs as ive been moving my room. now i have a nice big room where the living room was and a small little living room where my bedroom was. im in the library now where im making up for the work i lost, though the internet is the best distraction, its fine though becasue its good distraction and its a weekend so who cares if im not working. this is an image of a scene in the MS documentry. the character will ajust his seat and end up flying out through the roof. all this DOES LINK TO MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS BY THE WAY! also the tyne bridge will be ajusted later i think and i also need to add props on the little desk and under and on the drawing board, ive just misplaced the damn paper i drew all the newcastle brown ale bottles and mugs on.

Another After Effects Animation At Ridiculous Oclock

It's official. my daily trips to the uni library have destroyed my body clock. remember the bit in "Hook" when the little boy smashes clocks as a pantomime dustin hoffman watches? well thats me (the boy smashing the clocks) (and they are body clocks, not normal ones). Any way. ive been up all night doing this, its an after effects animation of a girl character from my 3rd year project. the purpose of the 'excercise' was to play with facial expressions. to be honest i think i would have been better off doing that on a character that wouldnt have so many bits that needed 2ndery animation ie the fucking hair. which still isnt right as i did it last and im very tired. all in all im quite happy one day ill actually finish one of these animations, each one is always mising something (hands, secondary animation, puppet tool etc) but the general purpose of starting has been acomplished.

i HAVE TO GET UP AT 7 OCLOCK AND ITS QARTER PAST FOUR. I GUESS THAT MEANS IM NOT GETTING UP AT 7, IM STAYING AWAKE. Oh well. a part of me is saying "don't go to the seminar in middlesborough!you need sleep, but that part of me should have said something a few hours earlier like "you need sleep now! for middlesborough awaits!" FUCK IT. ill have to just be very tired. Margret thatcher used to live on 4 hours sleep aparently, maybe i can do a few hours tonight. anyways this is boring talk.

Marzipan (See what i did there)

here is a pencil drawing of a pan of MARS! its for an animation for an MS documentry, i knew youre probably thinking WHAT THE FUCK DOES MARS HAVE TO DO WITH MULTIPLE SCLEROCIS (If it's spelt wrong im sorry, im not dyslexic, me just fucking stoopid and not well at england) anyway, it turn out Mars has loads to do with MS so here is my un finished background.

Cancer at the dinner table can be like an elephant in the room

unfortunately. my little animation broke down and i lost an hour or so's work. feeling annoyed at this, i decided to get some work done to show a client for tomorow. as i may have said in pevious posts im hoping to illustrate a booklet about coping with cancer. they dont want it all arty and flowery, they want it a bit more aproachable? basicly cartoony with a bit of humour. anyway, having read the booklet, there was a segment about a womans story and how she mentioned that having cancer was difficult because noone would want to talk about it, like an elephant in the room, so i drew this illustration that would obviously go into that bit. hope she likes it. i want this job. ive not bothered colouring it fully as i dont have my graphics tablet. but the idea is there anyway

This Week

This week. ive taken my life to the library where i have been working till UNGODLY OCLOCK. the reason being as its the only place i can work thats got peace quiet and of course internet. been doing it this whole week and its beginning to feel like fucking groundhog day. though to keep me distracted from working my eyes out, ive been playing loads of Machinarium which was given to me by my good friend (who also fights with me) Fran. If you have no idea what it is (although the only person who will read this is me and fran, i)i suggest strongly that you drool over its lovely backgrounds that are sickingly good heres an example.

today i drew this pencil drawing of my character from my 3rd year preproduction. its mostly for showing off to someone who wants me to illustrate. ive been putting a portfolio together with all my old work o what harm is a new one eh? here it is, after i post this up. ill be working on an animation of her, which i hope to have up by the end of the night.

angry boy jumping

Still playing with After effects puppet tools. have a look at this video, its a boy jumping angrily, maybe im very annoyed deep down and this is me expresing myself. oh and i have to make my posts more fun from now on, LALALALALALA HOWDY GUYS! LOL OMG happy fran?

After Effects and Puppet Tools

Ive started working on backgrounds for Oddballs newest project, animated segs for an MS documetry. aswell as that, it looks like i might be alowed to work on some illustrations for a booklet about coping with cancer. ive started sketching ideas given to me on an email but have to wait till i sort out a meeting with the client before rushing in, so when im bored and have no internet, ive beengoing to the library of sunderland uni (they still let me in for a year after graduation) tonight i sat from 8 till now (1.21) on a walk cycle for a character i drew up a few days ago, ive started playing with the puppet tools and it is my first animation working with them, in future ill remember to draw big, but this was a test after all. its not finished as i didnt add fingers and a second foot. also there is no slow in slow out or ease but at least i have a nice bit of overlappin' to make it interesting, unfortunately, as im in a rush, extreemly tired and hungry to the point of pain, ive not looped the video. ive also not taken the time to look at the quality so i guess theres no point in putting it up, but ive already typed all this so i will anyway

Terraced House finally complete

So since Monday ive been working on colouring Jurates drawing of a row of modern Terraced houses. I was hoping to have two done by Wednesday but obviously that was a JOKE! but at least i have one done now and its the bigger of the two so the next one wont take as long. ive also realised that i can stop drawing individual bricks and just paste real bricks under the drawing. I think that saved me a full day. Anyways, onto housing terrace number 2.

Ive decided to make a start on the modern Buildings, ie anything from the beginning of the 20th century. In my list ive things like, Nuclear Plant Coolers, Wind Farms, glass buildings, etc, etc. Ive drawn these modern Buildings, a Subway, cleverly disguised as "Slopway" HAHAHA! IM SO FUNNY ETC. and a cinema from 1939 (obvious from whats being shown) hopefully the pan wont be so fast that you wont be able to make out my wonderful JOKE and my culteral references to films. and hopefully MGM wont come banging on my door to sue me for using thier posters on my animation.

More houses from the 16th Century

Few more of the old houses that ive done today. Have a lot more to do but i think i need to start on more modern buildings, as the pan through the buildings will be quick, many of the buildings will be reused like the Flintstones, so i think i have enough of the tudor buildings for now.

New Building

Just did this Victorian Town house today. may aswel add it.

I'm currently doing building designs for the backgrounds to a title sequence, i have to draw a range of buildings from medieval to modern. here are some that ive done so far. Thanks to the newly discovered burn tool, my style has improved i think.

Moving things on

Still no work to post, i have started drawing a little screen shot looking drawing of my two main protagonists from "Cest Angleterre" and have been scribbling story or joke ideas down. will hopefully have the drawing up within a week just to make the new posts more intereting. when im not working on my private work im mostly stressing out or working with Alex and Jurate in Oddball Media, weve been asked to make two story boards of Viz strips so ive been learning how to doodle Sid the Sexist and Roger Mellie. I think im getting the hang of it but I've a few things to learn here and there with the design. when i can draw them with my eyes closed and think they look reasonably presentable, i'll be happy.

Back to work

When im not fixing up my new house, or getting work started with ODDBALL MEDIA Ive been writing scripts for my personal work in progress series, no new visual work these days unfortunately, hopefully ill start daily blog updates soon.

Loads of characters

Ive been extreemly busy finishing my degree, working on scripts and my animation bible so ive not posted anything in a while. but i thought id just throw on some newer images. most where made specificly for my bible others are images i have just completed since my last post.

Another Establishing shot

Working on my animation bible now, so im basicly doing tons of concept art for it, starting with finisheing off my exterior shots of the various locations, here's one

Started drawing this last night, just finished it. it's the student dorm kitchen, quite a typical students kitchen really, as a student, i know.

Random drawing

just did a random drawing the other day becasue im sick of walk cycles. plus i need to start drawing my characters together, so here is one.

Turnarounds and expression sheets that need getting out of the way

ive gone and bought myself an xbox so this weekend ive been very distracted. but ive managed to punch out a turn around and a couple of expression sheets today, at least its something.

Another Background

i've been animating mostly this week, but ive taken breaks here and there throughout the week to get this background done. its similar to my last one but it's a different building within the same campus. this one is the main academic building where the classrooms are.

Carlton Walk Cycle, improoved

ive re drew Carltons walk cycle, ive added more bounce and a bit more personality, i wanted to make him walk like he was a bit fed up so i hunched him over slightly and had his arms dangle down with his shoulders lowered

Latest Walk Cycle

This is the latest walk cycle ive done but ive run out of paper so the last trace (that i add followthrough to) doesnt exist. but here it is so far anyway

Second Walk Cycle

the second, and best walk cycle ive done so far is this one, theres a few wee details in the lines that arent up to scratch but then, im under alot of time contraint and am not a disney animator so ill forgive myself.

First Walk Cycle

This is the forst walk cycle i did of the main protagonist Carlton. it's quite basic and lacks arm movement, also a failed attempt to "cheat" in animation has left a jump in his walk. im going to go back and redo it as soon as i buy more paper. and ill add more followthrough with his head and arms, also, since he looks fed up im planning on adding aslight hunch to his back and dropping his shoulders a little to add a bit of character as he looks a bit mechanical. sorry about the low quality.

Exterior Background

I drew this building a month or so ago, but i just today retraced it, adding details and shading and have spent all day colouring it in photoshop. it is the exterior shot of the dormatory, one of the main buildings of the series. the home of many of the characters.

More Turn Arounds

Basicly my turnarounds, some coloured, some not yet.
